At least in Australia it is compulsory to vote and you are fined if you do not. Whilst that does not ensure a "proper vote", at least some who may not care will make a token effort.

Not sure what to think of world politics at the moment- its as if its all being "dumbed down". Is Obama being set up for a fall? ( can I ask that here?)

Joan & secret,fragile skies...

I am about to barf. I meant to wait until later in the evening to turn on the tv. Oops. Rand Paul.

I'm mystified, still. I guess always. I hear Americans saying they want this, that, the other thing. Do they want help or not? Or do they want the "freedom" to become homeless, have unregulated utilities, & unsafe food. Etc? I don't get it.

They've elected a creep who would not have voted for the CIVIL RIGHTS BILL. Holy (*&(%$#!

Simon--of course you can say that here. I don't know. I have sinister thoughts tonight, for sure.

About compulsory. I wish we could do it. The doofuses who are voting in the weirdos wouldn't stand for it. You'd be taking away their "freedom" - you know the way having health care will take away their "freedom." It's ludicrous. Freedom-shmeedom.

Many of us have wished for compulsory voting for years. Now that so many states have early voting, voting by mail, & less restrictive absentee voting, one would think this would not be such a big deal. Freedom from voting. Oh man.

I know people who are in prison right now in other countries - for agitating to have a vote. So you can only imagine how this fires me up. It's really personal for me.

Now go drink your ginger tea!

gorgeous gorgeous sargent painting. in great contrast to what is happening in this country. people have fallen for the lies, because the liars have succeeded in having their ears 24/7. and no one has succeeded (or even tried?) in counteracting that.

Julie--thanks...Simon cracked me up too.

Mlle. Paradis--yep. It's been a 24/7 echo chamber o' doom. I'm ashamed to say that I was part of the media - but I didn't work for ratings/adverts so was free from this sort of nonsense. I don't know what to say. I do think Democrats should've listened to the leader of the Dem strategy, my congressman Chris van Hollen. They wouldn't take his advice until it was too late. His advice (his begging them): state clearly , loud, & often about what has been accomplished. Clearly, assertively, & so forth. They didn't. I won't blame it all on that failure but it sure did not help. They only started doing that late in the game. By then, the Teabags had it going on...hey, the GOP old guard is in trouble. The Lipton Gang has said that they don't want to be a 3rd party--they want to reform the GOP. Oh, be my guests, dudes. Can't you hear the shrieking now when they try to privatize Soc Sec, slash Medicare/Medicaid/Food Stamps, on & on. I thought these folks were furious at the banks. Then why are they against re-regulating (for freaking real, like the olden days) the banks? Man oh man.

But I whinge on like a prating imbecile...to the choir. Sorry. xo
